Laurens Electric Cooperative announces 2007 Employee and Volunteer of Year

Line worker Shane Wright, Laurens Electric’s 2007 Employee of the Year, “epitomizes the best qualities you could have as an employee,” said Director of Operations Nathan Brown.

Laurens Electric Cooperative has named its Employee and Volunteer of Year for 2007. Line worker Shane Wright received $1000 in addition to being named Employee of the Year, and line worker Mason Addy was awarded $500 as the Volunteer of the Year.

The process of selecting each year’s winners begins with nominations submitted by fellow employees and supervisors. After a nomination period, a committee consisting of LEC senior staff discusses and selects a winner.

The Employee of the Year must meet the following criteria: Performing beyond the call of duty, exemplifying the co-op’s core values by putting forth extra effort, and making outstanding contributions which help Laurens Electric fulfill its mission to meet or exceed the expectations of its members, and commitment to community.

“Shane Wright epitomizes the best qualities you could have as an employee, no matter what position or department,” said Director of Operations Nathan Brown. He’s someone who’s not just here to earn a paycheck – he actually likes his job. He has a good attitude and sets a great example for all of us here, myself included.”

Nominees for Volunteer of the Year are similarly judged - not by the number of organizations with which they volunteer, but by the dedication and time donated to the organization(s). The judging committee takes into account how the community has been improved by the individual’s efforts, and the degree to which he or she displays Laurens Electric’s core values within the community.

Line worker Mason Addy “gives so much of his time to worthwhile organizations and events,” said President of the Laurens chapter of WIRE Donna Farrow.

“Mason is always quick to jump in and give 100% with any Co-op or WIRE function,” said LEC meter dispatcher and current President of the Laurens chapter of WIRE Donna Farrow. “He is very dependable and always pulls off any event with outstanding results. He’s a team player and gives so much of his time to worthwhile organizations and events.”

“We’re proud of all of the nominees for their selfless donation of time and caring, and proud that so many of Laurens Electric’s employees are so compassionate and involved with our community,” said Armstrong.
