$2,500 scholarships reward education efforts
Applications are being taken for two $2,500 WIRE Opportunity Scholarships.
The scholarships are offered annually by Women Involved in Rural Electrification (WIRE), a community service organization affiliated with electric cooperatives in South Carolina. The scholarships are awarded to women who may not have been able to attend college when they graduated from high school, but now wants to further their education. A $2,500 one-time scholarship will be presented to two electric cooperative members in South Carolina based on financial need and personal goals.
Applicants for the WIRE Opportunity Scholarships must:
- Be a member of a South Carolina electric cooperative
- Have graduated from high school or earned a GED at least 10 years ago
- Obtain acceptance into an accredited South Carolina college or university
- Demonstrate financial need
Women who have previously obtained a four-year college degree are not eligible for this scholarship. However, applicants may have previously earned a two-year degree or some college credits. Deadline for applications is June 2. Click here to download and print an application. The winner will receive the scholarship for the Fall 2008 or Spring 2009 school semester. The scholarship will be paid jointly to the winner and the college of choice.
