Laurens Electrics $1 Million Hole
In One Shootout profits local charity
Mark Lee of Greer came just 2 5 from winning $1
million in the Laurens Electric Cooperative Touchstone Energy
Million Dollar Hole-in-One Shootout April 23 at the Eagle Zone
in Greenville.
Sponsored by Laurens Electric Cooperative with The Greenville
Journal, ATS and Cornerstone Communications, the third annual
Shootout raised $10,000 for an area childrens charity,
according to Jim Donahoo, director of marketing for the cooperative.
Donahoo told the finalists, We appreciate your support.
This benefits a worthy cause, For Our Children.
For Our Children is a non-profit fund-raising organization that
promotes and sustains the Greenville communitys commitment
to the education, development and well-being of its children.
Recent beneficiaries of For Our Children grants have included
the American Diabetes Associations Camp Independence,
the Make-A-Wish Foundation and A Child's Haven, a program for
developmentally delayed, abused and neglected young children
and their families.
Donahoo said later that the Shootout demonstrates Laurens Electric
Cooperatives commitment to the communities it serves.
As a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, we place a high value
on community commitment and focus on serving all consumers,
large and small, with reliability, accountability and innovation,
he said.
Lees near miss the closest so far of 11 fund-raising
Shootouts sponsored or co-sponsored by the co-op over the last
three years -- came amid high winds that kept the rest of the
Shootout pack much farther from the $1 million hole. John Barrickman
of Gaston came second closest at 19 5_ while Brandon
Brown of Greenville finished third at 36 10_.
Lee won a $1,000 cash prize; Barrickman won $500, and Brown,
$250. All other competing finalists received prizes, including
golf outings and more. Finalists and other daily closest-to-the-pin
competitors received prizes, too. Laurens Electric Cooperative
serves 47,000 member-owners in Laurens, Greenville, Spartanburg,
Anderson, Newberry, Union, and Abbeville counties. Since 1939,
the co-op has been dedicated to being the provider of choice
for energy and related services in the Upstate.
