Laurens and Blue Ridge Electric Cooperatives
focus on children
Laurens Electric Co-op and Blue Ridge Electric Co-op are taking
steps to become part of the solution in eliminating a national
missing children crisis. In May, the cooperatives joined hundreds
of Touchstone Energy electric co-ops from across the state as
well as the nation to put an end to this nationwide problem.
Fingerprint/DNA identification kits are being distributed to
first graders in the cooperatives service areas this month.
This unique joint effort between Touchstone Energy Cooperatives,
the American Football Coaches Association and the Federal Bureau
of Investigation provides parents and guardians with a fingerprint
identification tool to help protect their children. The program,
dubbed The National Child Identification Program, is one of
the largest child identification efforts ever conducted and
provides local cooperatives fingerprint I.D. kits to distribute
among their members and in the communities they serve.
Laurens and Blue Ridge Electric Cooperatives involvement
in this program is yet one more example of our long-standing
commitment to community, said Laurens Electric President
and CEO David Wasson. Through this outreach program, we
are again affirming that we are more than just energy providers.
We are fulfilling our pledge to be a valuable factor in ensuring
the safety of the children in our communities.
The I.D. kit allows parents to collect specific information,
including DNA, by easily recording the physical characteristics
and fingerprints of their children on identification cards that
are then kept at home by the parent or guardian.
In the event it was ever needed, this I.D. kit would provide
authorities with valuable information to assist in their efforts
to locate a missing child, said Wasson. We care
about our communities and we care about the children in them.
This kit is part of a grass-roots effort to help
protect our most precious assetsour children.
