On October 13, The Laurens Chapter of Women Involved In Rural Electrification (WIRE), based at Laurens Electric Cooperative, announced its’ new committee.  Wanda DeLaine will become Past President; Donna Farrow, President; Bakinka Bailey, Vice President; Sherry Scott, Secretary/Treasurer.

These officers will begin their official duties on January 1, during which WIRE will be in a transition period. 

Current officers are Wanda Delaine, President; Flo Wilson, Vice President; Bakinka Bailey, Secretary/Treasurer.  

WIRE is a statewide women's community service organization. It was created to foster understanding of electric cooperatives and to improve the quality of life in South Carolina.

Members support a variety of programs in their communities; They help victims of tornadoes, hurricanes and house fires, and support homeless shelters and children's homes. WIRE members are involved in Operation Caring projects at children’s

hospitals during the holiday season and visit nursing homes near Grandparent's Day. Members sponsor educational seminars and workshops on health, consumer issues, family and safety. WIRE also offers a scholarship, the Jenny Ballard Opportunity Scholarship, awarded each year to women who want to earn their degree after graduation from high school at least 10 years earlier.

Laurens Electric Cooperative’s WIRE chapter helps raise money for the American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross, sponsors an Angel Tree for a needs based school in the Greenville area, collects canned goods for the local Safe Home, and most recently raised money for the Hurricane Katrina victims.
