David Hammond, LEC’s 2011 Employee of the Year
Laurens Electric Cooperative has named its Employee and Volunteer of Year for 2011. Marketing Specialist David Hammond received $1000 in addition to being named Employee of the Year, and Customer Service Representative Sherry Brantley was awarded $500 as the Volunteer of the Year.
The process of selecting each year’s winners begins with nominations submitted by fellow employees and supervisors. After a nomination period, a committee consisting of LEC senior staff discusses and selects a winner.
The Employee of the Year must meet the following criteria: Performing beyond the call of duty, exemplifying the co-op’s core values by putting forth extra effort, and making outstanding contributions which help Laurens Electric fulfill its mission to meet or exceed the expectations of its members, and commitment to community.
“David has worked in the Marketing Department at Laurens Electric since February 2005, and is described by his coworkers as dependable and someone who is always willing to help,” said President and CEO David Wasson. “In the past year, David has planned and organized numerous company events, been instrumental in implementing new membership programs, represented the cooperative on various non-profit boards, and assisted many departments with time-sensitive projects with a helpful, positive attitude.”

Nominees for Volunteer of the Year are similarly judged – not by the number of organizations with which they volunteer, but by the dedication and time donated to the organization(s). The judging committee takes into account how the community has been improved by the individual’s efforts, and the degree to which he or she displays Laurens Electric’s core values within the community.
“Sherry Brantley, a Customer Service Representative in the co-ops’ Mauldin office, volunteers a lot of her time after hours and on weekends to help with Laurens Electric’s charity events, such as our annual Poker Run and Million Dollar Hole in One Shootout,” said Wasson. In addition, she works to help children and elderly in her community through fundraisers like car washes, bake sales and yard sales, driving them to the doctor, cleaning for them or taking them on outings.
“We’re proud of all of the nominees for their selfless donation of time and caring, and proud that so many of Laurens Electric’s employees are so compassionate and involved with our community,” said Wasson.
