Shootout event raises $12,000 for local children’s charity

Golfers miss $1 million hole but win prizes

In June, Laurens Electric Cooperative employees presented a check for $12,000 to representatives of The Beach Ball Foundation, a local non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to helping children in need and at risk from the Upstate. Heidi Aiken (pictured left of center), Co-Founder of the Beach Ball Foundation, said “Thank you, Laurens Electric Co-op for caring so much about families. Your efforts in fundraising will help to educate and feed children in our community.

David Swoap of Simpsonville came just 9 ft. 3 in from winning $1 million in the April 30 finals of Laurens Electric Cooperative’s Million Dollar Hole-in-One Shootout at Eagle Zone golf center on Pelham Road in Greenville.

Swoap won $1,000 for the closest-to-the-$1 million-hole shot. Stephen Camillieri of Greenville was next closest at 14 ft. 2 ½ inches and won $500, followed by Tony Golembesky of Simpsonville at 31 ft. 2 ½ inches, who took home $250.

Sponsored by Laurens Electric Cooperative, the Shootout included two qualifying days during which golfers could earn entry into the finals, where a hole in one would have been worth $1 million!

This year’s $1 Million Hole In One Shootout earned $12,000 for the Beach Ball Foundation,  a registered South Carolina 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping children in need and at risk. It is an all-volunteer organization of caring business leaders and community leaders from the Upstate. The foundation raises funds through its annual Beach Ball event.
