Students have brush with history

Laurens students Roxie Daniel and Dre’Sha Singleton represented Laurens Electric on this summer’s Youth Tour, June 11-16.
Two local students are back home after touring the nation’s capital in June on a trip sponsored by Laurens Electric Cooperative.
Roxie Daniel and Dre’Sha Singleton, both from Laurens, represented Laurens Electric on this summer’s Youth Tour, June 11-16. The students were selected on the basis of their academic achievements, school activities and community service. The co-op sponsors local rising high school seniors on the Washington Youth Tour to help them deepen their appreciation for our country. They join students representing other co-ops across the Palmetto State for a whirlwind tour of historic sites, government buildings, museums, monuments and much more.
The students spent a day at the Capitol, meeting their state’s elected representatives. They also participated in town hall meetings with students representing co-ops across America.
“I would like to thank Laurens Electric for giving me the opportunity to go on the Washington Youth Tour,” said Dre’Sha Singleton. “This was the trip of a lifetime and I am truly grateful I was given a chance to go. The people that I met on this trip will be in my heart forever and they are going to be my life long friends. I just want to thank you again for allowing me to be a part of something so amazing. “
