June’s recipient of the employee Pay it Forward funds, Lineman Greg Davis, paid forward $500 toward a 529 College Savings Plan for a child who lost his father earlier in June.
Chad Tolbert passed away on June 2nd, 2018, leaving behind his eight year old son Landen. In Chad’s honor, his friends and family started the college fund to help set Landen up for success in the future. According to the GoFundMe page, Chad “was a friend that was always there when you needed him. Now his son needs our help… Chad was always proud of his son, especially when he did well in school.”
Greg said “I felt led to help just knowing that this child, at such a young age, will have to grow up without his father.”
He added, “These are local people – our friends and neighbors.”

Through Laurens Electric’s Pay It Forward program, every Cooperative employee is entered into a random drawing to receive $500 to pay forward in any way they choose. Each month a new name is drawn, and the employee then has one month to apply the funds toward their own act of kindness.
This initiative is budget-neutral; the funds will come from Laurens Electric’s charity events, which employee volunteers make possible.
